The hard part of a review is rarely the rating. It's the sentence. You know someone is doing well, but the words come out vague: "great team player," "strong communicator," "needs to step up." Those phrases tell the person nothing they can act on. The fix is to anchor every line to a specific behavior and, where you can, a result.
Below are performance review examples you can lift directly. Swap in the real name, project, and number, and they become honest and specific. How to use these examples well
- Replace the placeholder with a real instance. "Handled a tough client" means little; "calmed the Henderson account after the April outage and kept the renewal" lands.
- Pair behavior with impact. What they did, then what it changed — for the team, the customer, or the number.
- Write growth areas as next actions, not character judgments. "Be more proactive" is a complaint; "bring blockers to our 1:1 before they slip the deadline" is coachable.

- "Translates complex updates into plain language — the migration status notes were clear enough that non-technical stakeholders stopped asking for a separate summary."
